Description
Open-cell polyurethane foam contains a network of interconnected internal and external pores. When sound waves enter the material, they induce air vibrations within these pores. The viscous resistance of the air, combined with friction against the pore walls, leads to the dissipation of a significant portion of the sound energy as heat. Additionally, the foam’s undulating surface profile causes repeated refraction of residual sound waves, further diminishing their intensity. During adiabatic compression of the air, continuous heat exchange occurs between the air and the pore walls. This directional interaction
facilitates further conversion of sound energy into thermal energy, thereby enhancing the foam’s sound absorption performance.
